Before moving to San Antonio in 2002, Gerry and Mon owned a restaurant for several years in Corpus Christi. In San Antonio, the couple opened Mon Thai Bistro and Sushi Bar, now in its thirteenth year in business. There, Mon does much of the cooking, drawing from her native Thailand, where she was born and raised. In 2008, the Shirleys opened Bar Du Mon Ami with Olaf Harmel, one of the most respected mixologists in the region. While the Shirleys have since sold the award-winning bar, their innovation continues to help propel San Antonio’s cocktail renaissance. To their guests, the Shirleys bring the same attention to service and hospitality that they have been known for in their past and present endeavors, but with it, they also bring a sense of sophisticated whimsy.
